If you go vegan, watch out for these killers.

There is currently a war going on. Attacks on your health. Attacks on your mind and beliefs. Attacks on free independent thinking. Attacks on anything outside of the narrative. Attacks on your freedom.

The media and food industry have created a new monster, a cult, a religion almost. You and I have been told a dangerous lie that impact our health. Are you asking yourself: “Who is this guy who thinks he knows better than the companies?”

Well, I was a victim myself. I was vegan for 2 years and the experience f#cked me up big time. How? We’ll get to that later. The goal is not to convince you to go from one extreme to the other but to educate and allow YOU to make a conscious decision for yourself.

Enough chitchat, let’s dive into it my friend.

1. Lack of nutrients & vitamins

Imagine hoping on a plane to fly from London to Belize, only to realise that the tank is half-full midway through the flight? Unlike this example, your odds of survival are a bit higher when it comes to your diet.

You have heard it all before but vegans lack an endless list of nutrients. Here is a short list of vital nutrients & vitamins plants are lacking in: Calcium, vitamin A & D, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B-12 and folate. There are all heavily present in meat and dairy (Health-line, 2019). They are vital to keep your engine and body functioning correctly. Vitamin A, for example, is essential for eye health.

You want to continue reading a book? Make sure you get enough of Vitamin A!

You want to grow your muscles and digest your food? Make sure you ingest sufficient levels of B7.

You want to survive? …..

You see where I am going. Most of the vegans are deficient in vital nutrients and they deprive their engine of the fuel it needs to keep going. Don’t get me wrong, you might find traces of these nutrients in plants BUT, and here comes the big BUT, you’d need to eat tons of plants to get the intake. You’d feel full, but not satiated.

2. Tooth decay

What does dating have to do with veganism? What are the first things that influence your impression of someone when you go on a date? Most likely, their smile. Imagine looking at rotten teeth….

I am exaggerating here, obviously but studies (US National Institute of Health) have shown that vegans are more prone to dental problems. Why is that you wonder?

The vegan diet includes plenty of carbs and acidic foods. They contain a lot of sugar, for example sweet potatoes, tropical fruits (pineapple, mango), dried fruits (dates). The famous raw vegan snacks, which are low in calories but full of sugar.

The foods themselves are fine in moderation but remember, as previously stated one would need to eat tonnes to make up for all the nutrient deficiencies. Vegans simply must eat a lot to make up for their losses. It makes them more prone to damage their teeth.

3. Gut health

A cow, an asparagus and a human walk into a bar. Someone asks them: “What do you 3 have in common?” All 3 shrug their shoulders. A fire breaks out and everyone storms to the door. Everyone runs for their life.

Stay with me my friend. Have you ever heard of Darwin, the good lad who came up with the idea of “Survival of the fittest”, a theory describing the mechanism of natural selection?

Animals, plants and humans all want to reproduce, to ensure the survival of their “race”. To do so, humans and animals behave physically, whether this be acts of sex or combat. While plants, engage in chemical warfare, creating toxins (see picture below). These toxins impact your gut health, because most of the plants, were naturally indigestible by humans (antinutrients).

Plants usually contain a lot of fibre, which puts obscene pressure on the gut. To digest it, fermentation takes place, which causes the release of gases which then, can lead to bloating and inflammation. The more inflamed your body is, the more stress you put it under. Over time, chronic inflammation can trigger your immune system to attack healthy tissue and organs in your body. When left untreated, prolonged chronic inflammation can increase your risk for diseases like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and rheumatoid arthritis.

This is a pretty bleak picture to me. Again, I am not saying that you shouldn’t eat plants at all, but relying solely on them is.not a good idea.

4. Mental health

Which part of your body puts in all-nighters, from the moment you step onto this planet until you die? Your brain. It takes care of your thoughts and movements, your breathing and heartbeat, your senses — it works hard 24/7, even while you’re asleep. Because of that, it requires fuel. Fuel that comes from the food. See where I am going? Put simply, what you eat directly affects the structure and function of your brain and, ultimately, your mood. (Eva Selhub MD, Harvard Health)

Studies have shown that the more fucked your gut is, the more you are prone to be at risk of mental health issues. Why is that? Because your gut function has been linked to normal central nervous system (CNS) function (US National Institute of Health).

Unfortunately, the vegan diet only provides substandard fuel, not the premium stuff that is vital to keep the engine going. The refined sugars, the processed snacks, the lack of nutrients will eventually start impacting your brain function. The inflammation and stress in your gut will eventually reach your brain.

Because of that, you’ll suffer from impaired brain function — and even a worsening of symptoms of mood disorders, such as depression.

Conclusion

Imagine the following scenario:

You have decided you want to meet your best mate in Auckland. Instead of flying with Turkish Airlines, you have decided to be take an adventure and go on a wooden boat.… with holes in it and one sail only, by yourself. Sounds stupid, doesn’t it? You are essentially doing the same thing with your body if you go vegan.

“And I hear you saying — so, I should only eat meat now or what?”

The beauty of life is that it is it is about balance. We are living in extremes and we forget that life isn’t binary. This goes also for our diet. I am not saying that you should ONLY eat meat now. Quite the contrary, you have to find out what’s good for you. Make a conscious decision. I have empowered you to be able to make a conscious decision, because, the one extreme, veganism, isn’t healthy. It impacts your gut health, your mental health, your oral health, it can fuck you up big time.

At the end of the day you should do your own research and come up with your own conclusions.
